DNA evidence proves...

...Jack the Ripper was really That Guy Shown Waiting in Line in the Lobby Mural at the Fremont Main Post Office.

(Please tell me SOMEONE gets the joke.)

Make art, not war.

I am painting a mural in our town. :) I thought I'd share.

I live across the street from an elementary school. The fence I am painting is down the street on the corner across from the school. The fence gets tagged periodically. I asked the owner (a very lovely woman) if I could ask the elementary school kids to help me design a mural. She agreed (much to my shock). I gave the school a letter asking the kids to show me what they love about living here in Fremont. I am doing my best to transpose their ideas onto the fence.

We have local places of interest (the yellow blob thing on the far left is the Hindu temple that needs lots of additional layers of color and interesting things) then the elementary school. In that same area I need to add our neighborhood park and the 7-11 on the corner (complete with 'Hi Mom!' poster in the window). Lots of little girls drew pictures of flowers and said they love the gardens, thus the garden scene. The mountain is Mission Peak, which is right behind our neighborhood. Then we get the skate park and water park and Lake Elizabeth.

Eventually there will be huge masses of "people" playing all over the mural. I'm having fun.

My son is back and safe.

He showed up at his dad's at 4 am. We let him sleep a couple of hours and then bundled him off to school, dirty clothes, wild eyes and all. He was not a happy camper but running away doesn't mean he gets a vacation day.

This school deals with a wide range of kids with issues and they were waiting with open arms. Thanks to everyone for your help and support.

We live in Fremont. My teen-aged son is missing.

I live in Fremont, in the Irvington district. My 15-year-old son has been missing since Thursday, August 4, at around 3 pm. He was last seen getting off his school bus in front of my home. He is mentally ill and has disappeared before, but never for days at a time. I am posting this flyer in the hopes that someone may have seen him or may know something of him (the picture is not the greatest but he is camera-averse). Thanks for reading.

Kitten for Adoption at Family Pet Store

I was just in Family Pets getting some mealworms for my horde of ravening leopard geckos when the owner alerted me to a kitten she found abandoned at Lake Elizabeth.

He's approximately 12 weeks old.
Not sure of vaccine history, if any.  I didn't see if he was neutered (unlikely).  Unsure about FiV/FeLV.

He is very friendly, and as cute as a kitten is legally allowed to be.  He's a gray stripey guy, and can use some fattening up.

If you are interested in seeing him, he's being fostered at Family Pets on Fremont and Grimmer.

Please don't ask me about the kitten.  I have posted everything I know about him and promised the store owner I'd help put the word out :)

Seeking Dentist Referral

Would anyone have a recommendation for a local dentist specialized in handling phobic patients? Much appreciated, thanks.

Borders bankruptcy

I'm sure many of you have heard by now that Borders is closing. According to the Borders.com website, BOTH the Union City and Fremont ones are supposed to close.

I haven't had a chance to visit either location yet, but apparently stores marked for closure will do so no later than April. :(

Just thought I'd add: I've been to the Fremont location as I got an email that they have begun their store closing sales. If you plan to go and buy stuff, bring your own bags. For some reason, the store isn't giving out any.

Life-Icon Distracted By Shiny

Raley's on Paseo Padre

Why didn't anyone tell me that the Raley's has a really good bulk foods section and a great "natural foods" section reminiscent of Whole Foods?! If you haven't been, it's worth a look. I am now super excited that I can stop ordering a bunch of foods online. :D

We are having major problems with our internet lately. Websites time out before they can properly load. It's been going on for weeks and I'm pretty fed up. It started when Speakeasy wanted to 'upgrade' some equipment so they warned us about outages. And then they never went away. :(

According to ATT, Verizon, and DSLExtreme we can't get service here. Uhm, what services do y'all use?
